The valley of Fumane is also called Valley of Progni, the local name for the many streams that run through this area. The origin of the name Fumane is still unclear but is probably due to the expression “le fumane” referring to the smoke (fumo) from the charcoal making or perhaps to the low clouds that, after a storm, envelope the hills.

This territory is a fundamental destination for history and nature lovers.
In fact, the area of Fumane offers a lot of destinations of naturalistic interest, such as the Molina Waterfall Park and the Fumane Cave, a prehistorical site inhabited by Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens; these are clear examples of how Valpolicella has been a perfect spot for the first human settlements.

These wonderful sites can be discovered with various routes (one is HERE) that allow tourists to experience all the beauties that offer the area, like the numerous villas (see for example Villa della Torre) and the different villages that characterised the area. One that's worth definitely a visit is the medieval village of Molina.
